At Least I Don’t Have Alzheimers

Researchers report that a spinal fluid test can be 100 percent accurate in identifying patients with significant memory loss who are on their way to developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Although there has been increasing evidence of the value of this and other tests in finding signs of Alzheimer’s, the study, which will appear Tuesday in the Archives of Neurology, shows how accurate they can be. The new result is one of a number of remarkable recent findings about Alzheimer’s.

After decades when nothing much seemed to be happening, when this progressive brain disease seemed untreatable and when its diagnosis could be confirmed only at autopsy, the field has suddenly woken up.

Anamorphic global warming, or manmade global warming for the retards, I’ve noticed has been slowly changing to “Climate Change” in the media. I guess they are trying to throw people off that they are just fucking wrong. I love blog posts like the one below. As shown by the recent IPCC scandals and Climategate, it’s just a bunch of warmed over snake oil.

If anthropological global warming predictions were true, winters like this would not be possible anymore. As the planetary greenhouse heats up, snow should decrease dramatically. That’s not what we’ve seen the last several years – quite the opposite.

Meanwhile, it took me about 3 hours to shovel about 1/4 of the driveway and 1/2 of one car. Tomorrow must end with a clean car, driveway, and walk. I’m already running out of places to toss the snow. Almost 2 feet of coverage across a wide area equals a lot of volume. Oh that global warming were true!

This is a pretty cool story. I had always heard that dogs had an intelligence of 4 years old but even so, that means dogs are pretty freaking smart! I wonder if they will stop eating them in China now…

Researchers have found that dogs are capable of understanding up to 250 words and gestures, can count up to five and can perform simple mathematical calculations.

Using tests originally designed to demonstrate the development of language, pre-language and basic arithmetic in human children, the researchers were able to show that the average dog is far more intelligent than they are given credit for.

Since I seem to be covering Cyborgs today, I’m going to throw in another article about cyborgs and their quest to take over the planet.

Selva on The Scientific Indian writes today about his Bioware wishlist.

I’m good with the increased vision and the better memory but the legs…pass. I want to be able to see infrared and ultraviolet, like some sort of Predator geek.

Better eyes. Check this news at beebs on a man with bionic eyes. I am very hopeful. Spectacles suck, contact lenses suck. I want a pair of bionic eyes.

Better memory. No news on this. Cognitive enhancement drugs will not cut it. I want a prosthetic that adds to the sorry excuse of a memory that evolution has endowed me with. If we can interface with the optic nerve (above), we can interface with any nerve, the brain included.

Better legs – so I can run to the office a dozen miles without breaking a sweat. Sitting inside a box of steel and meddling with large turnable knobs and slippery pads to travel is as stupid as it gets and I want to be done with it. I don’t know about you but after having the laser surgery and going through the whole “am I going to end up blind” from it, things like this are exciting and wonderful.

It’s not long, maybe 50 years where a significant portion of blindness sufferers will be able to get their sight back.

Ron, 73, had the experimental surgery seven months ago at London’s Moorfield’s eye hospital.

He says he can now follow white lines on the road, and even sort socks, using the bionic eye, known as Argus II.

Well we “discovered” the pink bottlenose dolphin the other day and I love dolphins…they’re delicious (especially with albacore tuna and some mayo on rye bread). I figured a little bit more of the weird but cool bottlenose dolphin postings should be in order.

I’ve been fascinated by the fact that whales have vestigial bones in their body that correspond to leg bones from when they lived on land. Whales are a neat evolutionary animal because they evolved from sea creatures, moved onto land and then evolved back into the ocean. They are closer to hippopotamuses than fish.

Well to find out today that there was discovered a bottlenose dolphin with “hind legs” was just too much.

You have to see this shit to believe it!! It’s fucking pink!! It’s a pink bottle nosed dolphin! I bet his part of the continental shelf is beautifully furnished. I wonder what his take on this season’s line is going to be.

A rare pink Bottlenose dolphin, Tursiops truncatus, has resurfaced two years after it had first been seen in Lake Calcasieu, an inland saltwater estuary, north of the Gulf of Mexico in southwestern Louisiana.

The young dolphin, which was first sighted as a calf in June 2007 and photographed a few weeks later, gets its brilliant pink color and bright red eyes from blood vessels that lie just below its layer of blubber. This pink color is masked by pigments in the skin of normally-colored gray animals.
