how to burn a dvd 500x347 Imgburn Beats Indian Burns

As loyal readers of The Minority Report know, I stea…uh…quote from Ghacks regularly enough and this morning when I read their tutorial on burning DVD’s using Imgburn I thought I would throw my two cents in.

I use Imageburn almost weekly and it’s never let me down. It’s freaking awesome!! There isn’t too much that it can’t handle and my only very, very small qualm is I would like to see the functionality of Microsoft’s OSCDIMG.EXE program in it. I’m not even sure that’s possible but it would be cool if Imgburn could create an bootable ISO out of nothingness.

Details: I bought and downloaded Windows 7 Professional and ended up having to use OSCDIMG.EXE from the Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows 7. I might add that it is an ISO file that I promptly used Imgburn to burn to DVD!

Here is the tutorial from Martin @ Ghacks:

Despite being a common usage scenario, the process of burning a new DVD is not intuitive on a default Windows install. The question of how to burn a DVD is often answered with a counter-question about the type of data the user intends to burn. Will it be a video DVD, audio DVD or a data DVD? What about the source files? Are they in an image format, or are they files and folders on the hard disk?

This article exemplifies how to burn a DVD with the free DVD burning software ImgBurn, which can be used for all DVD burning tasks. In addition to the standard ISO format, ImgBurn supports a wide variety of alternative disc image formats including BIN, CUE, DI, DVD, GI, IMG, MDS, NRG and PDI.
How To Burn A DVD With ImgBurn

Here are some descriptive words from the Imgburn website:

ImgBurn is a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application that everyone should have in their toolkit!

It has several ‘Modes’, each one for performing a different task:

* Read – Read a disc to an image file
* Build – Create an image file from files on your computer or network – or you can write the files directly to a disc
* Write – Write an image file to a disc
* Verify – Check a disc is 100% readable. Optionally, you can also have ImgBurn compare it against a given image file to ensure the actual data is correct
* Discovery – Put your drive / media to the test! Used in combination with DVDInfoPro, you can check the quality of the burns your drive is producing
