WinDirStat Overexposed
I seriously do not understand that fascination with WinDirStat! Seriously, why does this program keep getting press, time and time again?? I downloaded it and it’s cool and stuff but seriously…between gHacks, Lifehacker, and 500 other blogs out there why is this recycled over and over again?
It’s not even that useful if you want to know the truth. Graphically, it’s cool. You see all those little boxes and they are shaded and visually appealing. But if you want a tool that works and works perfectly time and time again, it’s Treesize Pro. I recommend you download that one and use it.
Your hard disk space may seem increasingly small but you may not be aware what is taking the space. I, for example, subscribed to dozens of podcasts but naively overlooked them when trying to clear space. In fact, they took up 5GB of space!Analyse your hard disk and stop wasting space
In 2005, gHacks reported about WinDirStat. This is freeware that shows how big directories are. WinDirStat displays everything in the C:\ (etc) drive, colour coded for the first level directory (eg Program Files or Windows), and on tiers below that it is divided as blocks. This is a easy to use visualisation. WinDirStat runs on all Windows operating systems from 95 (w/IE5) to Vista!Analyse your hard disk and stop wasting space

I tried to focus my article on alternatives for OS X and Linux :)

First off, thank you very much for replying to my little catbox here.
Second, I’m not venting at you specifically, just I’ve seen that utility like a million times and wonder what the fascination is. I see the point of your article now though having re-read it.
p.s. I fixed your link.

Perhaps Windirstat receives a lot of attention because it remains FREE! Who has $50 to throw at some corporate rubbishware besides you? Next time you decide to bash software you should be cautious to stay in the same class grouping. Don’t compare pay-for-apps to freeware dunkoff!
