Obscure HTML Tags Your Mom Never Told You About
David Leonhardt, another genius SEO/Internet marketer, posted this discussion on his blog, SEO Marketing Express, today.![]()
How many of the following coding elements would you have known if you had not seen them here:
- The “abbr” tag
- The “acronym” tag
- The “address” tag
- The “base” tag
- The “bdo” tag
Exactly. These are all HTML 4 Elements that any good coder should know. Well, maybe. I wonder how many coders have ever run into some of these, and we are just at the Bs.

I can’t tell you how awesome it was to see someone discussing/debating the merits of little known/little used HTML tags. I use the “CITE” tag here on the blog but I’ve not seen that used heavily just about anywhere. I use the shit out of “TITLE” and “ALT” even though some “experts” say that they are just glossed over by Google. Frankly, I figure every little piece of text on my pages help and I’m not going to try and figure out what Google uses and doesn’t use. It’s easier to have too much text than not enough.
Anyway, go visit his article and get in on the debate and if you are frisky, come back and leave a comment or citation here as well.
