Why, because once the new version of IE is out, we developers are sure that will be as buggy as older versions (history has taught us this) so that we must then write more code to make things compatible. The fact that IE is finally catching up with some of the modern web standards: SVG, HTML5, that have been there for a big while is definitely good. They should have adopted those standards a while ago. They are still enclosed in the proprietary way of viewing things. They said they will have H264 over Ogg? that is so unwise... The news that a more modern IE version(v. 9) is coming is just getting us all mad at our software company. Why, because once the new version of IE is out, we developers are sure that will be as buggy as older versions (history has taught us this) so that we must then write more code to make things compatible.

The fact that IE is finally catching up with some of the modern web standards: SVG, HTML5, that have been there for a big while is definitely good. Internet Explorer is only a small part of the operating system. Ubuntu lets use use SVG as your wallpaper and it uses it as the default image format in its applications. Firefox is a component of Ubuntu just as Idiot Exploiter is a component of Windows.
