Internet Explorer 6 Dirt Nap
I continue enjoying snipping from george’s world today. He notes that Internet Explorer 8 is now a high priority update from Microsoft. I have updated servers today and noticed the same thing.
Now the adoption rate of IE7 from IE6 wasn’t that significant at first but I don’t remember how they flagged IE7 vs. IE8. I believe it was optional for a long time and nearing the “end” it was marked as critical. I like that IE8 got released a few months ago and it’s flagged as critical. Maybe that will push adoption.
However, the real problem continues to be corporate adoption due to inadaquate IT staff and other beauracratic issues regarding a large deployment. Finally, in-house applications that actually require the shitty IE6 quirks to work.
Regardless, IE8 should push IE6 in to it’s long deserved dirt nap.
Microsoft has done you a favor by making IE8 a required high priority update. Short of downloading a more superior web browser sourced by their competition for you, this is the next best thing.
