Well we “discovered” the pink bottlenose dolphin the other day and I love dolphins…they’re delicious (especially with albacore tuna and some mayo on rye bread). I figured a little bit more of the weird but cool bottlenose dolphin postings should be in order.

I’ve been fascinated by the fact that whales have vestigial bones in their body that correspond to leg bones from when they lived on land. Whales are a neat evolutionary animal because they evolved from sea creatures, moved onto land and then evolved back into the ocean. They are closer to hippopotamuses than fish.

Well to find out today that there was discovered a bottlenose dolphin with “hind legs” was just too much.

Hey Creationists, ain’t evolution a bitch??

A bottlenose dolphin was discovered in Japan that has two additional pectoral fins, or “hind legs”, at the tail, about the size of a human’s pair of hands. Scientists believe that a mutation caused the ancient trait to reassert itself as a form of atavism.Bottlenose dolphin – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An atavism is an evolutionary throwback, such as traits reappearing which had disappeared generations ago.Atavism – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
