What interests me, is what motivates people to display their RSS subscriber count via a chicklet?
If you saw a feedburner subscriber count as displayed at the top of this post, would it give you the feeling that the blog is a worthwhile place to be?
What about these? (amazing what you can do in a few minutes on photoshop)
(I reckon it would be an interesting social experiment to put up a bogus feedburner chicklet with a really high count & seeing what difference it makes to the subscriber rate. NOT that I’m about to try it of course, that would be a big no-no, but it’d be interesting….)
Subscriber Count Chicklet – What’s your magic number? | Dipping into the Blogpond
I also wonder what would happen to my subscriber rate if there was a high number in the chicklet (or at least a real number ;) ) Like the author of that post, I judge the worth of the blog or site by the number of subscribers. I also judge eyeballs to guestimate how much money a blog may be bringing in using Adsense.
My formula goes something like this:
Number of subscribers * 1.0% click thru * $0.12 average payout * 365 days a year = …profit
By that formula, I actually owe Google money…
Regardless, Michael Arrington @ TechCrunch is my idol (besides the stalking) because of the over 2,000,000+ subscribers .
